In addition to real-time scanning in all versions, MailMonitor incorporates on-demand and scheduled scanning for Lotus Notes/Domino databases and mailboxes. It uses Microsoft's virus scanning interface, VSAPI, to scan inside Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and information stores.

MailMonitor for Exchange also performs real-time scanning of NNTP newsgroup traffic, intercepting the postings and scanning both the body and any attachments. It will also check for attachments in newsgroups, which do not allow them.
